GROWING THE ASSISTERHOOD IN QUEENSLAND

The Assisterhood 2019 Mentoring Program in Queensland launch event this week attracted over 80 young up and coming creative women from Youngbloods, Universities and early career makers, now ready to apply as potential mentees.

Now in its second year, the Assisterhood Mentor lineup of leading creative industry women has doubled with 11 female Queensland leaders from digital, creative, design, media, social and production agencies in Queensland.

The sell-out launch on Wednesday 13 March is an indication of the hunger and determination of young women to break into the creative industry and make valuable connections to gain insight and be mentored by women who know what it takes to succeed.

The night was led by the Panel of 11 Mentors who shared their career journeys and ups and downs along the way in a refreshingly honest way.

Co-Founder of Assisterhood is Managing Director of Publicis in Queensland Simone Waugh who says, ‘Assisterhood was born to address the gender imbalance in creative industries and help women navigate their choices from their early career days and through the challenging mid-career years. We want young women to know we’ve got their backs and we’re going to ensure equality is the norm for them rather than the exception as it was for us’.

Chair of Youngbloods Queensland Linh Diep says, ‘Youngbloods’ purpose is to empower the next generation of young people to kick-arse in advertising. The Assisterhood initiative directly feeds into this goal and we couldn’t be more thrilled to support & be involved with the cause.

The 2018 program was created by Publicis Groupej as part of their VivaWomen! program. Assisterhood 2019 has now expanded to involve leaders from across other agencies in the industry.
